A meeting of the HOI YUEN was held on board the S.S. Tai Shan from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. on 20th inst. About 4,000 persons attended. The ship was decorated with flags and banners contain

ing i inscriptions such as The Guild is the Fortress of the

Workers", "Down with all Oppression", "The Hoi Yuen are the

Leaders of Revolution and the Bravest of Men".

Speeches were made from 2 to 4 p.m.

LEUNG CHO YEE, said:-

As you will know we obtained afonsiderable amount of power during the Seamen's Strike. The Government tried to smash

us but in the end we smashed the power of the Government. You will remember the fact that our sign board was taken away. But the people who took it away were forced to replace it. This meeting is being held to celebrate the formation of a branch

of the Hoi Yuen, which we intend to establish on all ships in which our countrymen work. We are out to destroy British Imper- ialism, in order to gain this aim it is very necessary that we should have unity. In future we must look on the Hei Yuen as

our father and our branches on board ships as our mother. I regret that we did not think of this idea long ag YIM IP NAI, (Representing Canton Head Labour Union) said:-

The idea in establishing a branch of the Hoi Yuen on board ships is in order that we can have freedom to express our views without being in danger of arrest by British Imperialism. In future we will be able to carry on our work in secret. We invite the Hong Kong Government to arrest us, what can they do? The gaol accommodation is not sufficient to hold us all. They have sent one of our men to prison, but there are still hundreds

of thousands of us left.

FUNG WING WUN, President of Hoi Yuen, said:-

It is wrong of any person of Hoi Yuen to use the funds

of the Guild for his own purposes, such as in the case of Chak Hon Ki. It is also wrong for foreigners to despise and murder the Chinese people. They (the foreigners) were responsible a
